Calendar of events: Cumbia Fest, Clue and more (2024)

After Victoria’s big bicentennial weekend, there are events galore this coming weekend with Casa de Luna’s third edition of Cumbia Fest celebrating Selena, the opening of the Riverside Park Dog Park and more.

Later in the week offers entertainment for the whole family with Victoria Theatre’s production of “Clue” and Innovation Collective’s Think Big Festival Tech Carnival.

SATURDAY

1,000 Strong 5k/10K — 8 a.m., Patriot Park at Saxet Lakes, 1867 Fordyce Road, Victoria. This is an opportunity to come together to overcome Restoration ministries obstacle challenge run to help young men and women overcome their obstacles of trauma, abuse and addictions and help put the homeless in our community on a path to restoration.All proceeds benefit Restoration House Ministries. Crossroads Cruisers Father’s Night Out Car Show — 9 a.m.-3 p.m., 4802 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria.The Crossroads Cruisers Car Club proudly presents their annual Father’s Night Out Car Show. All cars, trucks and motorcycles of all years, makes and models are invited to register. All proceeds benefit local nonprofits in the Crossroads.

Czech Heritage Society-Texas Genealogy Conference — 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Our Lady of Victoria Cathedral, Victoria. Hosted by the Victoria County Czech Heritage Society. Riverside Bark Ribbon Cutting and Red Car-PET — 3-4 p.m., Riverside Bark Dog Park, 200 Memorial Drive, Victoria. Join the city of Victoria as we celebrate the grand opening of Riverside Bark, Victoria’s largest dog park. Stick around for a red carpet dog parade and more fun.

Cumbia Fest — 5-10 p.m., Casa de Luna, 1501 E. Red River St., Victoria. Join Casa de Luna for year three of Cumbia Fest. This family fun event will have live music, performances, art , food, vendors, face painting y mucho mucho más. This is a free event in celebration of our Tejano Queen Selena. Bring your lawn chairs, dancing shoes y toda la familia.

Faculty Piano Trio Recital — 7-9 p.m., Victoria College Johnson Symposium, 2200 E. Red River St., Victoria. This recital will feature works by Astor Piazzolla, J.S. Bach, and Bedrich Smetana. The works will be performed by Marylynn Fletcher on piano, Justin Balli on cello, and Melissa Balli on violin.

Flight Squad vs. Postal All Star Basketball game — 7-9 p.m., Victoria College Gym, 2200 E. Red River Road, Victoria. A fun comedy basketball show featuring high-flying slam dunks and fun tricks. Cheer on the USPS Postal All-Stars as they take on the Flight Squad. This is a free community event.

SUNDAY

Spring Fling Market — 2-6 p.m., Riverside Park Special Events Area, 311 Memorial Drive, Victoria. Come join so many vendors this Sunday for a Spring Fling Market.

Gulf bend Center’s Build Your Own Crisis Kit — 3-6 p.m., Gulf Bend Center Room 242, 6502 Nursery Drive, Suite 100, Victoria. intellectual or developmental disability and autistic participants will build their own crisis kits.

WEDNESDAY

Earth Day Clothing Swap — 5-7 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Bring your family and friends to our clothing swap at the library. Expand your wardrobe for free by exploring trendy finds and practicing sustainable fashion. Bring in gently-used clothing to receive a ticket to use to swap for other items.

No Pressure Book Club — 6-7 p.m., Moonshine Drinkery, 103 W. Santa Rosa St., Victoria. This month’s theme: Utopia Gone Wrong. Sometimes perfection isn’t always the answer. Bring your favorite dystopian novel and we can discuss our ideas of a perfect society.

THURSDAY

Toddler Time — 9:30-10 a.m. and 10:30-11 a.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Your toddler will enjoy high paced songs and rhymes to help gain use of various fine motor skills.

Inbetweeners: Earth Day Cups — 4:30-5:30 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Join the Victoria Public Library for a delightful way to explore the Earth’s layers. At the end of our project, we can savor them as a treat.

Hot Rod Tour of Texas Kick-Off Party and Downtown Rhythms — Don’t miss two great events coming together at the Hot Rod Tour of Texas Kick-Off Party + Downtown Rhythms, presented by Victoria Symphony. This event will feature live music by the Symphony Orchestra, the Crowbars band, and more. Enjoy several great local food trucks, cold drinks, and hundreds of the coolest cars from across Texas meet up as this annual cross-state rally gets ready to head out from Victoria on Friday morning.

Bad Poetry Night — 6-7 p.m., Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St., Victoria. Stop by the Victoria Public Library as we take away the pressure of writing good poetry and challenge you to have fun writing the worst during our Bad Poetry Night event. Come create, laugh, and cringe with us as we develop some bad poetry.

Think Big Tech Carnival — 5-8 p.m., 120 S. Main St., Victoria. A fun and interactive event showcasing the latest in technology and innovation and an opportunity for our community members have to show off their products and innovations. Free to attend.

ONGOING

Theatre Victoria Presents: Clue — 7:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday-April 27 and 2-4 p.m. April 28, Leo J. Welder Center for Performing Arts, 214 N Main St, Victoria. Based on the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture based on the Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. A Comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!

Timeline: 200 Years: Celebrating Victoria’s Bicentennial — Noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays, through June 9, Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art, 1201 N. Moody St., Victoria. The exhibition examines the last 200 years from our connections to the land and nature, to the personal experience of families and ancestors. The works in this exhibition also include the longer history of immigrants and travelers who found their way to Victoria through trial, opportunity and serendipity. The DeLeon carriage is on display.

Victoria Farmers’ Market — 9 a.m.-noon. Wednesdays and Saturdays, Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center, 2805 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Local farmers sell seasonal produce, farm fresh meats and eggs, baked goods, local honey, homemade pickles and jellies and more. For more information, call 361-218-9246.

361 Pop-Up Shops — 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, 2504 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Shop with a variety of vendors. Something for everyone in the family. Friendly vendors, air-conditioned shopping. It’s like shopping in a mini-mall.
